The Challenge

TBS was tasked with surveying for the installation of the first U.S. offshore windfarm at Block Island, RI. The challenge was to achieve stringent tolerances—less than 1° on orientation and less than 1’ on position—to avoid resistance from sub-seabed boulders during pile installation.

The Solution

TBS implemented a precise, multifaceted approach, integrating marine positioning, land surveying, and dimensional control. Using DGPS, telemetry radios, and traditional surveying, TBS accurately positioned vessels and structures, ensuring all installation tolerances were met. This allowed for the successful and stable installation of the windmill structures.
