The Challenge
During a routine inspection of the West 15th Avenue Bridge, several critical deficiencies were noted and resulted in the closure of this bridge, which services a major artery in the city of Covington, LA. The City requested TBS perform professional services for the replacement of the five-span bridge structure over Mile Branch Creek.
The Solution
TBS provided an integrated platform of professional services to design a complete bridge replacement project including approach roadway and pedestrian/bicycle accommodations. The bridge was designed as a five-span reinforced concrete slab span with an integral eight-foot-wide bicycle and pedestrian path, separated from traffic by a 54” barrier. Decorative rails were utilized on the pedestrian side of the bridge in order to provide enhanced aesthetics and view of the scenic Mile Branch Creek from the bridge. TBS provided topographic surveying, right of way surveys, roadway design, pavement design, bridge design, traffic management plans, and construction support services.
