Construction Project Engineer

Position Location: South Louisiana 

T. Baker Smith is seeking a professional Construction Engineer with experience in CE&I) projects, phases, or tasks, predominantly within the Transportation. This position will have the opportunity to handle some overall project management tasks but will primarily work on daily construction administration aspects of projects.

Your Opportunity:

  • Assists in the development and review of CE&I proposals, particularly in the Transportation practice.
  • Leads technical and administrative tasks on CE&I projects, typically assigned as full-time Resident Engineer on LADOTD projects.
  • Develop construction project deliverables.
  • Assists in the development and review of CE&I proposals, particularly in the Transportation practice.
  • Participates in project planning, including preparation of scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Advises on design concepts for projects regarding constructability.
  • Uses and maintains current knowledge of engineering software, construction methods and techniques, procedures, standard specifications, and applicable regulations.
  • Opportunity to mentor and lead project representatives, junior engineers, and technicians on construction administration and other technical tasks.
  • Supervises the daily construction administration effort for the firm on specific large-scale LADOTD projects, typically located on-site for the duration of the project.

Desired Qualifications Skills:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and a professional engineer (P.E.) license.
  • 4 years of engineering experience with greater depth of construction engineering knowledge and experience on major construction projects
  • Ability to relate to clients and people at all levels of the organization and must possess excellent communication and diplomacy skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret most complex documents.
  • Ability to operate computer, using technical software, which includes computer, aided drafting and other applications, spreadsheets, and other business software.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the associate performs responsibilities equally in both a typical office as well as outdoor environment and is exposed to weather conditions. The noise level in the office environment is usually moderate.  Associate is frequently exposed to the noise, dust, smells, and other environmental factors present in such situations. Must comply with site-specific safety requirements. Nights away from home are also required.

Hours of Work and Travel:

This position can be non-exempt or exempt. Nights away from home and weekend commitments to the firm, its associates, and clients are required locations (where the respective discipline has a presence) and quarterly to international locations (where the respective discipline has a presence) are required.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to operate, handle, maneuver, and manipulate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; use manual dexterity to operate computer keyboard, calculator, and telephone; talk and hear; climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, climb, and lift to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision; depth perception; ability to adjust focus.
